This good value classed growth Pauillac was formerly known as Mouton Baronne Philippe and has been in Rothschild ownership since 1933. It is made by the same wine-making team as Mouton Rothschild. The 80 hectare vineyard contains around 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Vines are an average of 39 years old. A new winery was completed in 2021.
The 2024 vintage is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc. Picked September 29th to October 10th. ABV 12.9. Matured in 50% new oak.

Offering up pretty notes of sweet wild berries, rose petals and burning embers, the 2024 d'Armailhac is medium-bodied, bright and precise, with a sweet core of fruit but a somewhat strict, angular profile. If it rounds out with élevage, it will merit a better rating.
The 2024 Château d'Armailhac was picked from September 25 to October 8. It has a slightly distant nose at first that demands coaxing from the glass. This is not its usual outgoing self, though that said, it is well-defined with black fruit and light damp loam scents. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a peppery entry. This lingers nicely in the mouth with fine grip and a pleasant roundness that emerges toward the graphite-tinged finish. Give it two or three years in bottle. Drink: 2027-2047
Bright purple colour. The fruit on nose and palate is granular and chalky with a herbal edge. This is a tensile, juicy Armailhac, brushed with notes of strawberry and hedgerow. It is sleek and gentle, led by a touch of wood spice on the finish.
Deep garnet-purple colored. Pops out of the glass with vibrant notes of red currants and black raspberries, followed by hints of menthol, red roses, and dark chocolate. The light-bodied palate is elegant and vibrant with spritely red berry flavors and lightly chewy tannins, finishing with great freshness.
72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, harvested 25 Sept to 8 Oct. To be aged in French oak barrels, 50% new, for 18 months.
Lovely deep plum colour, this has some chalky tannins, good depths of cassis and greengage fruits, with the real floral edge of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, that savoury, precise, elegant side, enjoyble with salinity and lift on the finish, Here the longer stretch of drought than normal of rainfall from end of June to mid September. Harvest began September 25 though to October 8, 3.69 pH. 50% new oak.
The 2024 d'Armailhac is a very beautiful wine. Dark, layered and intensely aromatic, the 2024 is so expressive. The percentage of Cabernet Franc from 60+ year-old vines is high in this vintage, and that very much comes through in the wine's perfume and saline intensity. All the elements are so well integrated. Dark red-toned fruit, blood orange, spice, cedar and new leather explode on the finish. Tasted two times. 2032 - 2044
A fragrant, floral nose with fresh red cherries, berries and touches of cocoa powder and graphite. Bright and poised, this has medium body, vibrant acidity and an expressive finish. No sweetness. Juicier and more classic this year, though not as concentrated. 72% cabernet sauvignon, 14% merlot and 14% cabernet franc.
