Barbaresco Montestefano, Rivella, Guido 2018

Tasting Notes

The 2018 Barbaresco Montestefano is delicate and understated, some hard edges notwithstanding. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, spice, cinnamon, cedar and pipe tobacco are nicely lifted throughout. Darker shades of fruit, cloves, licorice and melted road tar develop later as the more virile side of Nebbiolo begins to emerge. Ultimately, the Montestefano feels a bit compact and closed in on itself. It will be interesting to see how it comes along with cellaring. (Drink between 2024-2033)
