From another of the properties of cult/boutique winemaker Jonathan Malthus, the 2005 Laforge is largely dominated by its unfiltered, old vine Merlot component. With dark chocolate, raspberry and espresso notes, sweet cassis, loads of earth, spice, and medium to full body, this is an attractive, bigger-than-usual style for Laforge, with some tannins still to resolve. It can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15 years. Drink 2015 - 2030.
Lots of toasted oak and very ripe fruit. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and lots of ripe and wonderful fruit. Solid wine.
Very rich and opulent. Full and round and seductive. Quite delicate with fine tannins only on the finish. Sprightly. Not especially deep but energetic and certainly sends out a drink-me message loud and clear. Drink 2014-21
Nuanced, spicy aromas of black cherry, tobacco, mocha, graphite and licorice pastille. Rich, ripe and sweet, with fat red fruit flavors complicated by caramel, smoke and earth. Lots of sweet new oak showing today in the middle palate and on the aftertaste, which features building tannins. But juicy acidity keeps this wine youthful and fresh.
Concentrated black-red, very rich old-vine Merlot fruit, almost New World in lush voluptuousness held in check by firm, spicy tannins, liquorice flavours, marvellous ripeness with refreshing acidity. Drink 2009-18.

Moreover, there are 2,500 cases of this offering from the brilliant Englishman, Jonathan Malthus, who has proven he can turn quite a qualitative trick in both Bordeaux and Australia’s Barossa Valley. This dense purple-hued St.-Emilion offers up a glorious nose of graphite, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, licorice, and a whiff of acacia flowers. Full-bodied, thick, and juicy, this blend of 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc possesses terrific purity, an extravagantly rich mouthfeel, and wonderful precision. The result is a provocative, compelling wine that should be drinkable between 2013-2028.
Sweet black cherry and currant fruit interwoven with pain grille, white chocolate, and earth emerge from this chewy, well-made, impeccably pure, nicely textured, medium to full-bodied, St.-Emilion. It should drink well for 10-15 years.
An offering from talented producer Jonathan Malthus, the 2005 Laforge displays full-bodied richness, supple tannin, and sweet berry fruit intermixed with mineral, floral, and subtle new oak notes. Powerful and rich as well as refreshing, vibrant, and well-delineated, with moderate tannin, it should drink well for 15 years.
