Rivesaltes, Domaine St Michel 1967

Tasting Notes

The 1967 Rivesaltes has a lively marmalade and slightly petrolly bouquet that nods towards German Riesling, albeit in an oxidative style. The palate is viscous on the entry, tangy and spicy. White pepper and cloves emerge towards a finish that lingers in the mouth. The 1967 may not have the length of other vintages, but it is quite delicious and would work well as an apéritif. Drink 2025-2040.

Heady nose, almost like a table wine! Châteauneuf? Rich and satisfying. Good acidity. Real refreshment! (JR)

Honey roast nuts, caramel and pastries form the nose, together with hints of old wood and preserved fruits. Teh palate is salty and spicy, concentrated and well balanced. This is a serious, layered wine that would work very nicely as a digestif. There is a pithiness and saltiness against the caramelised sugars, making for an expansive, moreish finish.
