A classic, pure bouquet of smoke, black currants, blueberries, and flowers is followed by a powerful yet elegant, medium to full-bodied, ripe, moderately tannic, classically proportioned Margaux. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2020+.
Georgous nose. Aromas of roses, berry and currant. Licorice. Full-bodied, with very fine tannins and a long, long finish. Layered and seductive. A finely crafted red from St Emilion's Jean-Luc Thunevin. Best after 2008.
Very extracted. Almost painfully concentrated. Lots of tannin and acidity. Dramatic, showy but not balanced.
Performing better this year than it did in 2004, the brilliant 2003 is one of the top wines of the Margaux appellation. Its saturated purple color is accompanied by a sumptuous perfume of charcoal, graphite, blackberries, and blueberries. Layered, medium to full-bodied, with terrific precision, surprising freshness as well as vigor for a wine from this vintage, and plenty of tannin, depth, and length, it should be at its finest between 2008-2022.
Although this small vineyard is owned by the Porcheron family, Marojallia is the garage operation of Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife Murielle. Sadly, production is usually less than 500 cases.
Isn’t it surprising that this garage operation from Margaux may be the second finest wine of the appellation, eclipsed only by the great Chateau Margaux? Sadly, only 5,000 bottles were produced in 2003 from a blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its saturated opaque purple color is accompanied by classic scents of white flowers, creme de cassis, blackberries, and licorice. Atypically powerful for a Margaux, it boasts fabulous depth, superb purity, and admirable nobility as well as stature. Give it 2-5 years of cellaring, and consume it over the following two decades. A brilliant wine!
Very fine tannins and a fresh finish. Pretty wine.
