Rivesaltes, Domaine St Michel 1960

Tasting Notes

The 1960 Rivesaltes has a showstopping nose of liquorice, aniseed and peppermint. Compared to the 1964 and 1965, it kind of veers away from the Rivesaltes style. The palate is better, with a viscous opening that lacquers the mouth and notes of marmalade and Chinese five-spice. It gains body towards the persistent finis. This is a sophisticated Rivesaltes. Drink 2025-2040.

Racy and really structured. Really tangy with a beginning, middle and end. (JR)

Mid copper/mahogany colour. Cocoa and coffee notes mingle with roasted almond and dried fig on the nose. The palate has an initial sweetness and focus that are matched by notes of amaro, more coffee, liquorice root and unsmoked cigar. This is plush and glossy in texture yet has lively fruit for such a mature wine. Supple, with peppery lift, this is a silky with a long, intense finish.
