A richer purple and a fuller riper nose, if less fine. Sumptuous but chunky with drier tannins, still quite impressive but it struggles after the perfect balance shown by the Chapelle-Chambertin Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Oct 2024.
On the upper slope with Chambertin to its south, Clos de Beze always produces full bodied and rich Pinot, and this 2023 Jadot - from a 0.42 hectare plot - is no exception. Purplish ruby in the glass, the nose is brooding, dark-fruited and spicy, with a coffee-accented fragrance of roast plum and cherry. The palate is chalky rather than chewy, the tannins giving a bold mouthfeel but not dominating that ripe fruit core. This gives a sense of overall brightness that you might not expect from the nose, which is impressive. The result is a spicy but well balanced and very well made wine that should age well for over two decades.
