Tasting Notes

Pale lemon colour. A little touch of coconut. Discretion up front, more weight of fruit behind, still the coconut and then a very engaging length behind. Quite a complete expression, enlivened by a racy finish. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024. ****

Clos de la Garenne has a series of famous vineyards bordering its southeastern limit, including Champ Gain and Folatieres. From old vines on stony soils, the Duc de Magenta bottlings often show very well from barrel. That is the case here with a powerful, peachy nose bordering on fruit compote, there is an effervescent sweetness to the fruit profile on both nose and palate. This impactful character gives the wine power and depth, with a crunchy acidity that almost gives a pithiness to match the creamy fruit in the middle. Spicy, long and broad, this should drink well fairly young due to that powerful fruit core.
