The 2023 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot) is rich and muscular, unwinding in the glass with aromas of minty pear, peach, white flowers and toasted nuts. Full-bodied, layered and textural, with a dense core of fruit, ripe acids and a long, lusty finish, it's a classic rendition of the appellation.
Plush and lush on the nose, with solid oak to back it up, speaking loudly of Bâtard-Montrachet. Could this be too much of a good thing? No, because there is an adequate thread of acidity to hold it all together. Pretty powerful stuff and faithful to the terroir. 10 barrels made in total. Drink from 2032-2040. Tasted Oct 2024. ****
Just below and across from Montrachet, Batard is a large Grand Cru at 11.7 hectares - the biggest of those attached to the Montrachet name, the sites divided roughly equally between Puligny and Chassagne's braoder appellations. Chez Jadot, this wine is always full and rounded, as it is in 2023. Creamy, broad fruti shows peach and apricot tones with a buttery pastry sweetness to the wood spice. Glossy and dense, it offers the weight and power one would expect from this well-endowed site.
