This wine is produced by the Durantou family of Château L'Eglise Clinet in Pomerol. The fruit is sourced from a section of the Les Cruzelles vineyard with gravel soil and younger vines. This has probably been Farr Vintners' biggest selling Bordeaux wine en primeur over the last 15 years. Year on year La Chenade delivers the goods but the price remains reasonable.
In 2024 production is only 800 dozen bottles. It is 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc (which went into Les Cruzelles last year), is being aged in 52% new oak and comes out at 13.3% alcohol. The Durantou daughters pointed out that with new oak barrels costing nearly 1,000 euros each now (and holding about 300 bottles) the cost of production of La Chenade is extremely high considering the very low price at which it sells. Picked 22nd to 28th September with a great deal of time and effort spent sorting the grapes. A plot of vines that is normally picked and sorted in an hour took three hours this year.

The 2024 La Chenade is gorgeous. Deep, pliant and textured, the 2024 has so much to offer Dark red fruit, mocha, espresso, lavender and licorice all meld together in a sumptuous, beautifully layered Lalande-de-Pomerol that hits all the right notes. Floral and citrus overtones perk up the vibrant finish. 2026-2034.
The 2024 La Chenade was picked on September 22 and September 28 for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc, respectively. It then matured in 52% new oak. Lovely blueberry and violet scents blossom on the nose, fresh and seductive in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, gentle grip, fine backbone and a subtle graphite note on the finish. This will be difficult to resist from the get-go. Drink: 2027-2038
Fairly deep ruby in colour. The fruit is led by notes of red cherry and plum, but there is a darker fruit tone too, together with a touch of gun smoke and savoury, game-like spice. The tannins are lightly sandy, giving the fruit bite this year. The spicy wood is well judged and saline, giving a moreish quality to this strong effort for the vintage. Brambly, smoky and retaining structure on the finish. Good value.
A linear and crunchy red with mineral and stone character. Medium body, fine tannins and a lightly chewy finish. A blend of 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc.
Deep garnet-purple colored. Notes of fresh black and red plums and wild strawberries spill from the glass, followed by hints of damp soil and black pepper. The light to medium-bodied palate is soft with black and red berry flavors with soft acidity and a peppery finish.
85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc.
