La Goujonne is planted on a compact red clay soil, a 1950 planting of old massal selection plants, though some lesser quality repiquage in the 1960s needs a bit more sorting. Glowing ruby, then not as much bouquet as Santenay, but then again a greater intensity of brisk red fruit. A red Chassagne that eschews rusticity, though there remains a tannin or two, with considerable fruit weight at the back.
