The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch is raised for 22 months in 60% new French oak. This has a perfumed, almost Margaux-like bouquet with pure blackberry, raspberry, autumn leaves and light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite firm and perhaps a little stricter than previous vintages. Give this a couple of years in bottle just to shave its edges.
Black berries, bitter chocolate, graphite and tobacco leaf aromas in this compact, full-bodied red. Focused and savory, with a sturdy tannin frame. Drink from 2026.
Gottfried Mocke bled off 30% of the juice on this blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc in 2023 to concentrate what was left behind in a lighter vintage. Curated in 60% new oak, it combines aromas of mint, fynbos ad coffee bean with a refined, sappy, nicely delineated palate of bramble, blueberry and blackcurrant leaf and a fresh, focused finish.
