The 2023 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru has a delectable bouquet, the 80% whole bunches discretely enmeshed with the mixture of blackberry and raspberry fruit. Fine mineralité becomes accentuated with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, though there is a little more weight and grip compared to the Echézeaux. A discrete spiciness comes through on the finish, with black tea and a touch of espresso the aftertaste. Superb. (Drink between 2028-2052)
A discreet if still easily perceptible dollop of wood surrounds the wonderfully fresh and bright nose of various red berries and more subtle floral influence. Interestingly, the medium weight flavors are not quite as dense yet the mouthfeel is more sophisticated despite being impressively powerful on the bitter pit fruit-inflected, compact and built-to-age finale. Note: from a .50 ha parcel with vines that range from 20 to 60 years of age with the average being about 25+ years old; 80% whole cluster
80% whole bunch vinification, with six new barrels in nine. An even ruby purple. Sturdier on the nose, at first. Not now it isn’t! The whole bunches make themselves felt in a particularly refined fashion, alpine strawberry and a real sense of energy. Beautifully detailed. Dancing across the palate. 2023 may not be the most concentrated Grands Echezeaux ever made at Domaine d’Eugénie, but it is really beautifully precise. Drink from 2033-2045. Tasted Nov 2024.
