As is usual, the village Puligny has not yet been fully assembled, so we tasted its component parts, now in their various tanks. The first tank is quite exotically perfumed, lime blossom too, fresh and with good acidity, with a softer charm to the fruit behind. The second shows a lime tint to the colour, less exotic fruit, fresh apples, a little more density. The third tank hasn’t fallen clear yet, so crisply reductive, before a pure orchard fruit behind. A little more substance overall. Good length here. The fourth also not quite clear., showing the most weight to the nose, and indeed body on the palate. Overall, this should be an attractive and even reasonably substantial Puligny, which will be accessible quite early.
Cask sample. Absolutely classic, benchmark Puligny. Refined. Mineral, plenty of body but in a very sleek chassis. Citrus edge on the finish with pebbly notes coming through. Super-subtle oak. A real thoroughbred example of Puligny. Even tasted after over a hundred wines this is still fresh, exciting and delicious. 17/20

Jacques Carillon’s 2024 Puligny-Montrachet villages is a fine example of the vintage. The wine’s bouquet is bright and juicy, wafting from the glass in a stylish blend lemon, white peach, spring flowers, a beautiful foundation of chalky minerality and a suave framing of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and soil-driven in personality, with a lovely succulent core of fruit, bright acids, excellent focus and balance and a long, complex and racy finish. Fine juice. (Drink between 2026-2045).
Pale straw in colour, this delivery typical Burgundian savour and spice, with the cool citrus curd fruit that the vintage offers under hints of wood smoke and white flowers. The palate is equally savoury, with fresh nut, more citrus curd and tangy, salty acids. Medium weight with cleansing acids, this speaks of its place and vintage. Long and refreshing with steely, nutty fruit on the finish. Enjoy over the coming 8-10 years.
