loved the second wine, the 2005 La Chapelle de la Mission (2,000 cases produced). Sweet, smoky, black cherry, plum, and earthy characteristics are found in this velvety textured, fleshy effort. Similar to its bigger sibling, but softer and more accessible, it will offer delectable consumption over the next 12-15 years.
Tasted blind. Blackish crimson. Not much nose. Big and round on the palate. Definitely chewy on the end still. Powdery, dusty end. 13.5%
Drink 2018-2028
Good full ruby-red. Bright raspberry aroma complemented by a smoky element. Juicy but youthfully subdued, with a suggestion of hot stones and some acidity yet to be absorbed. This rather serious, structured second wine comes across as a bit disjointed today and in need of at least a few years of patience.
Quite fruit-driven in style. Red fruit aromas, soft, sweet attack leading to a warm, fleshy mid-palate and firm but fine tannins on the finish. Drink 2011-2020.

A noteworthy effort and a sleeper of the vintage, the 2005 La Chapelle de la Mission (2,000 cases produced) exhibits elegant plum, black cherry, and mulberry fruit characteristics intermixed with earth, herbs, and spice. This dark ruby/purple-tinged, supple second wine is made in the style of its bigger sibling. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2016.
La Mission’s second wine, La Chapelle de la Mission, has become one of the better second wines of Bordeaux. The supple, exotic, seductive 2005 will provide immense pleasure during its first 10-12 years of life. Its deep plum/ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by sweet cassis fruit, scorched earth, and mineral characteristics.
Amazing nose of sweet berry and currant fruit. Full-bodied with a solid core of ripe fruit and silky tannins. Long and caressing. Second wine of La Mission.
Sweet black cherries. Thick and sweet and flattering. Not classic and not quite enough refreshment for Graves but this should please a lot of tasters for its hedonistic appeal
Deep crimson with purplish hints. Intensely tarry and brambly - a blend of ripe autumnal fruits on the nose. Beautiful texture - so supple and approachable yet with very, very fine tannins knitted in underneath. This reminds me of finely woven silk...Great delicacy on the finish. Exceptionally forward. This could be one of the first wines one could drink. Lovely moderation. (Second wine of La Mission Haut-Brion.) Drink 2009-20.
