The Rayne-Vigneau 2007 seems initially unsettled by the performance of the 2006, on first acquaintance more closed and taciturn. Leaving it to one side, over the following 15 minutes it flowers and offers very attractive scents of white peach, apricot and lemon curd. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity. It is a little compact and unresponsive toward the finish, but there is certainly impressive focus. It is just a Sauternes wine that needs to say more, so I suggest another two or three years in the cellar because there is immense potential. Drink 2015-2025+.
Lively aromas and flavors of green apples, limes, papaya and honey. Full-bodied, yet balanced and medium sweet. Spicy and rich. Very long. Rayne-VIgneau is making better wine each vintage. 92-95
Pale greenish gold. Rich and sweet with some green notes. Quite aggressive. Very youthful. Citrus and racy. Could come right in the end - very youthful now. Lots of refreshing acidity
For the second successive year this wine has reclaimed its place at the very highest level. Once again there's a lovely purity and richness on the nose, with wonderfully complex lemony fruit, marked by outstanding elegance and finesse - a great wine. 5 stars.
Tasted single blind against its peers. The Rayne-Vigneau has blossomed gloriously in bottle and performed outrageously well under blind conditions. It has a rich, decadent bouquet with wild heather honey, orange peel and a touch of lime. The palate is very well-balanced with immense purity and brilliant tension. The acidity is pitch perfect here, with wonderful poise towards the finish and hints of elderflower on the aftertaste. This has class from start to finish and should age with panache.
This has a rounded nose of apple-blossom, honey, peach and a touch of elderflower. Good definition although it could do with more vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied, good acidity with a certain delicacy and sophistication to it. Lively and zesty towards the finish. Crisp, minerally towards the finish that is streamlined and economical. Good length. Drink 2010-2025. Tasted April 2008.
