This sensational sleeper of the vintage is one of the finest wines proprietor Denis Durantou (also the owner of l’Eglise-Clinet) has yet produced at Les Cruzelles. Sweet licorice along with jammy cherry and black raspberry characteristics dominate this medium-bodied, velvety-textured Lalande de Pomerol. It should drink beautifully for 7-8 years.
70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. 59% new barriques, like La Chenade, its Durantou (Église Clinet) stablemate.
Lighter colour than Chenade. Slightly reduced when we tasted it but lovely round fruit on the palate. Well crafted on the front palate even if there’s a certain sawdust element on the finish. Very drying tannins.
Good deep, bright red. Smoky dark cherry, blueberry, tobacco, roasted herbs, red licorice and earth on the nose, lifted by a floral nuance. Lush and smooth on entry, then pliant and savory in the middle, with rather primary flavors of red fruits, herbs and licorice. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and a late note of chocolate.
