The pronounce mealy, toasty, warm apricot aromas are just starting to evolve, going mealy, toasty with supporting notes of crème caramel and a whiff of nuts opening out. There's a nice bit of silkiness on the medium bodied palate with a good backbone of high acid and a long finish.
The nose has an attractive hint of autumn leaf maturity the start of the palate firm nutty herbal but there is mid richness ripe fruit. At the back lime and apple take over there is an underlying vein of flint the finish is firm and fresh. 2018-22
Lovely sweet – sour plum, fine harmony and palate elegance. This wine is in a very comfortable place. Plush, long and beautiful drinking now.
Fine, fresh and expressive with lively pear and white peach fruit, as well as a bit of spiciness. There’s richness allied with precision. Very fine.
Everything went right. Sweet and round and fully evolved. Nothing to object to! But perhaps on the way down. Drink 2010-2015.
The New World's answer to white burgundy is the Brajkovich family's chardonnay from Kumeu, on the North Island just north of Auckland, not the best spot for grape-growing. Yet, with hard-working Michael B now in charge, quality is higher than ever and I defy anyone to dislike this classy, Côte d'Or aping ripe, nutty, smoky, buttered burnt toast of a wine.
More clearly marked by the oak but not overdone. And the oak has that lovely savoury spice of good barrels with a very very slight hint of exotic blossom. Firm, persistent and very classy. Oak still evident on the palate but beautifully integrated with ripe but restrained fruit. Very burgundian.
Very fine aromas displaying grapefruit, mineral notes. The palatehas a very fine creamy texture with seamless oak integrationand great length. The limey acidity contributes a lip-smackingfreshness. Outstanding
A great mature chardonnay. Still brimming with cooked grapefruit and ripe pears, this is rich, but still dances on your palate like a top quality young wine. The integration of fruit, acidity, oak and richness is now complete, so drink now. Screw cap.
Tasted at Farr Vintners' Kumeu River tasting. The 2006 Estate Chardonnay from Kumeu River has a lovely, very Burgundy-like bouquet with pure honey, white peach and almond scents that are supremely well defined. The palate is fresh and crisp, edgy with lime and nettle notes leading to a slightly Riesling-like finish not dissimilar to the 1998. Savor this delicious Kiwi Chardonnay over the next 5 to 7 years. Drink: 2015 - 2024
The 2006 Estate Chardonnay is sourced from ten estate parcels with a little fruit sourced from identical parcels every year. It has a lovely, Burgundian nose - very minerally with touches of limestone and not a million miles away from a Meursault. The palate is beautifully balanced with that minerally component coming through with touches of limestone and white peach on the aftertaste. Drink over 2-3 years.
Sweet and ripe on the nose the palate starts with freshness some citrus and apple. There is a
richer feel in the middle ripe melon and grapefruit and although depth of fruit on the back
palate the finish is bright and fresh. 2015-19
