This has very good ripeness and purity on the nose, but to be honest I am more won over by the exuberance on the 2006. Notes of blackberry, melted tar with a touch of violets. But with a few swirls of the glass it begins to unfurl and reveal its quality and supersedes the 2006. The palate is actually a little closed at the beginning, again slightly coarse tannins, fresh acidity, touches of boysenberry and graphite. Moderate length. Robust and chunky. Drink now-2012. Tasted September 2008.
