Offers lovely perfumed aromas and beautiful raspberry and blackberry character, turning to tar, black truffle and wet earth. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with a balance of very chewy tannins and sugary fruit at the finish. This goes on and on. The great 1994 again? Best after 2020. 6,500 cases made. -JS
This has an expressive nose with blackberry, raspberry liqueur, crème de menthe and a touch of honey. Less complex than the Dow but more approachable. The palate is very well balanced with quite a fleshy, succulent entry, nice grip, quite gentle but building nicely to a more structured finish. Just the right amount of backbone without detracting from its more approachable personality. It just lacks a bit of chutzpah.
Good deep ruby. Lovely high-pitched, perfumed aromas of blackberry, boysenberry, licorice and orange peel. Dense, sweet and deep, with a wonderfully lush texture and captivating purity of fruit. Finishes long and fresh, with extremely refined tannins and excellent lift. A beauty
Liquorice and richness on the nose. Lots of spice and sweetness and very complete. Perhaps the wine closest to classic vintage port of all the 42 wines tasted here. Biding its time, all in place. Not at all showy. Dry finish. Great balance and integration.
I love the nose on this, with blackberry, black licorice, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, medium sweet and very, very dense. What seductive mouthfeel, with polished, round tannins that caress the palate. This may be better than the fantastic 1994.
Fresh, bright red fruit and a hint of Golden Delicious apple too. Full bodied but silky, showing preserved cherries and a bit of cream on the finish. Not so intense as the other 2007s. 20% (RH)
