Tasting Notes

Picked between 5th and 11th, this pure Merlot from Denis Durantou has a very pure, ripe nose with very fine definition, luscious red-berried fruit mixed with a touch of black plum and cassis, a hint of vanilla just in the background. Very smooth on the entry, finely balanced yet powerful, just a hint of white pepper towards the rounded, grainy, yet taut finish with good length. Excellent. Tasted March 2010.

I love the dark fruits in this, with loads of black olive and red fruits too. Full-bodied, but so refined and delicious already. Lovely length. 100 percent Merlot.

The dual-named, quite good value offering from the Eglise Clinet stable. Dark and bloody and spicy nose. Rather aggressive acidity and astringency. Hard work on the finish but dramatically ripe fruit. Date tasted 29th March 2010. Drink 2015-2023.

Deep ruby in the glass. The nose is one or red cherries and fresh red berries. The palate continues from this with crunchy red fruit and a silky mouthfeel with soft and ripe tannins. There is a hint of spice and toast on the finish from new oak, and good lift from balancing acidity.

Bright red cherry refreshes the nose and gives brightness on the palate. There are black fruits in evidence some bilberry and black cherry but they too are fresh giving it a lighter more fragrant character. Drink 2016-2030.

Denis Durantou of L'Eglise Clinet makes this modestly priced 1500 cases cuvée from a parcel of 35 year old Merlot vines in Saint Etienne de Lisse. Always attractive and good value. Succulent red fruit, ripe, chewy but fresh. A bowl-full of summer pudding here. Smooth tannins, nicely balanced.
