The wonderfully spicy but still somewhat restrained nose reflects a mix of both primary and secondary fruit along with pretty dried floral wisps. There remains excellent verve and minerality to the utterly delicious middle weight flavors that terminate in a beautifully long, focused and still ever-so-mildly austere finale. This classy effort is still on the way up though it's close enough to its apogee that it would be no crime to open a bottle now. In a word, lovely. (Drink starting 2025)

Not surprisingly, Christophe Roumier’s 2007 Amoureuses is a stellar young wine. The bouquet is deep, pure and still fairly primary in its development, wafting from the glass in a sophisticated blend of red and black cherries, deep plum, cocoa, a superb base of soil, fresh herb tones, incipient notes of gamebird and a delicate touch of new wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, and youthfully complex, with a sappy core, moderate tannins, lovely acids and a very, very long, pure and focused finish. Lovely juice that still needs several more years to seriously start to blossom. (Drink between 2020-2055)
