This is a beautiful wine from Latour à Pomerol, an estate which seems to be going from strength to strength under the renewed vigor and leadership of Christian Moueix and his winemaking team. Their 2005 offers gorgeous black cherry and truffle-infused fruit with hints of caramel, mocha and spice. The wine is medium to full-bodied and rich, with velvety tannin, a multi-layered texture, and a long, long finish. It is approaching full maturity, where it should stay for 10-15 years. Drink 2015 - 2030.
Very deep dark crimson and rich and meaty and particularly intense on the nose. Black cherry flavours but with much more freshness than most black cherry wines and less obvious alcohol and oak. Very sinewy and embryonic at present though there is lots tucked in here, not least quite a heavy tannic charge. Moueix.
Good dark red. Subdued but complex nose offers raspberry, currant and smoked meat. Rich, plump and sweet but with a firm acid backbone and solid underlying minerality giving shape to this rather large-scaled and mouthfilling wine. Finishes broad and long, with suave tannins. This should gain in focus with eight to ten years in bottle.
Restrained on the nose but fine, harmonious palate. Soft, textured fruit, firm, ripe tannins behind, lovely length and finish. Very complete. Drink 2013-2030.
Made in the elegant style typical of the Moueix offerings, this dark plum/ruby-tinged effort displays an attractive bouquet of kirsch, sandalwood, mocha, and caramelized fruit. It is medium to full-bodied with upfront, soft, plush fruit, and ripe tannin. Give it 2-4 years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 15 or more. As I said last year, it reminds me of a more modern version of their 1970, albeit somewhat less concentrated.
Aromas of very ripe strawberries and cream. Full-bodied, with very soft tannins and lots of pretty fruit. Refined and inviting already.
