Côte Rôtie La Landonne, Domaine René Rostaing 2009

Tasting Notes

Showing beautifully, the 2009 Cote Rotie La Landonne offers aromas of tapenade, bouquet garni, asphalt, blackberries, cassis, roasted meats and additional black fruits. More evolved and softer than the 2010, with a long, full-bodied finish, it can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years.

Bright ruby. Black and blue fruits on the nose and palate, with an array of spice and floral qualities adding dimension. Rich but very lively, with impressive intensity and concentration but no sense of heaviness. Supple tannins add shape to the extremely long finish, which features notes of star anise, candied violet and cracked pepper.

For once, this seems milder than the Côte Blonde. Very well mannered and beautifully balanced. Succulent and very appetising. Complete and gorgeous.

More masculine and steely with a boatload of tannin as well as a strong inner-coil of structure and acidity, the 2009 Cote Rotie La Landonne reveals more animal-like, black fruit characteristics as well as a firm, tannic structure that begs for 3-4 years of cellaring. It will age for 15-20 years.

Vivid ruby. Intense black and blue fruit aromas are complemented by potpourri, olive and smoky herbs. Broad, palate-staining dark fruit flavors become brighter with air and show an emphatically spicy character. Finishes with excellent clarity and juicy persistence, repeating the floral and spice notes. Rostaing thinks this will be especially tasty in its youth.
