A very fresh nose of red currant, earth and soft floral aromas merges into cool, precise and utterly delicious medium weight plus flavors that possess a mouth coating and moderately austere finish. This has fine balance and the finish is just as persistent as that of the Ech but it's not quite as complex. To be fair, it may achieve more depth in time as there is good underlying material. Still, I prefer to remain conservative at this early stage.
The nose has fine lift and seems quite spicy with just a touch of alcohol present and correct. It has impressive definition and this Clos de Vougeot seems to calm down when I leave my glass to one side. The palate has a crisp, stemmy entry and fine definition. It is light on its feet with an understated, green-tinged finish. This is such an intriguing wine. My kind of Burgundy...but no fruit bomb. Tasted January 2012.
