Dark fox red. After 135 years, I’m not sure I would guess it was Moscatel, though it is more luscious than most of these other wines. No Muscat nose but very round and very clean. Treacle but rich. Dentists would not approve of the sugar and acid.
Mahogany colour. Showing its sweetness on the nose, this is raisined and full, with steeped dried fruits, cocoa and incense on the nose. Generous, with incredible power and balance, this glossy, long, rich Madeira is pure joy. Seamless, with no hard edges but raw power and the savoury subtleness of age the acid is as concentrated as the sugar, giving impeccable balance. Hedonistic, with notes of dark caramel, bitter cocoa, sultana and tobacco on the finish.
