Vivid ruby colour with a purple hue at the rim, this wien has a nose of blueberry and black cherry with a hint of floral violets. The palate is bright, round and soft with 2012's elegant, ripe tannins. The floral, lifted edge to the fruit makes this moreish a fresh. Already drinking well with a hint of toasty oak on the finish.
This straightforward cru bourgeois exhibits some herbaceousness and damp earth-like notes along with medium-bodied flavors of dusty black cherries and earthy currants. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
Tasted as a barrel sample at the château. A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, the Capbern Gasqueton has a fragrant nose with nicely controlled red berry fruit and nicely integrated oak. It becomes more floral with aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, perhaps a little rustic on the spicy opening. The tannins are forward and firm with a bold slightly peppery finish. It does not quite have the finesse of the 2010 but it should have plenty of character. Tasted April 2013.
