Tasting Notes

Pale ruby. Light nose. Sweet and charred. Lots of life and a little bite on the end. Complex and fresh with a note of soy sauce.

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, April 2018

The 1976 Imperial Gran Reserva is an absolutely classic vintage of this iconic wine, and at age thirty-eight, it is at its apogee of peak drinkability. The outstanding bouquet offers up a very elegant blend of strawberries, cherries, fresh nutmeg, a beautifully complex base of soil tomes, toasted coconut nutskins and a gentle topnote of cinnamon. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and velvety, with the elegance of the nose echoed in the mouth. The wine has a fine core of sweet fruit, gorgeous complexity and still just a touch of remaining tannin on the long, perfectly balanced and very classy finish. Just a lovely, lovely wine at its zenith.
