Tasting Notes

Sandeman's Cask 33 Limited Edition Aged Tawny Port comes from a single cask of up to 70-year old Port and is released in celebration of the Port House's 225th anniversary. It was laid down in the early 1960s and is a limited to 685 bottles using the original design of 18th century bottles. Pale tile in colour, the nose is initially a little volatile but that soon blows away, indeed, this Tawny benefits from a couple of hour's aeration. It then settles with attractive nutmeg, grilled walnut, rosewood and sandalwood aromas all clearly defined and prioritising elegance over power or intensity. The palate is well balanced with a conspicuous nutty entry, spice notes (cumin and Moroccan spice) predominating with a long and quite feisty finish with marmalade, Chinese 5-spice and even honey. This is an exquisite release, although it will set you back a cool £525 per bottle with all the usual deluxe packaging and so on.
