A softly spicy nose combines notes of herbal tea, earth, red and dark pinot fruit and wisps of sandalwood. There is both fine volume and intensity to the delineated medium weight plus flavors that also possess a very round and suave mouth feel before terminating in a highly complex, well-balanced and lingering finish. I very much like the mouth feel and in 2013 this is more Vosne than Nuits in style.
The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges la Richemone 1er Cru was showing some reduction on the nose, although underneath there is crisp brambly red fruit and floral aromas emerging. The palate is quite firm on the entry: a serious Nuits Saint Georges with upfront tannins, the fruit taking the back seat at the moment. It seems just a little distant at the moment, but it should come out of its shell by the time of bottling.
Healthy medium red. Initially a bit dusty and reduced, but showed pungent red berry aromas and a musky smoky quality with air. Broad, ripe and fairly full but not showing quite the energy of a barrel sample I tasted a year ago. But this distinctly reduced wine gained in sweetness and dimension with air, eventually finishing with very good breadth and length and late hints of smoke and meat. This calls for some patience.
