Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, Groffier's 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Hauts Doix is much more pure on the nose compared to the Les Groseilles from Digioia-Royer, sporting lifted red cherries, wild strawberry and raspberry preserves—vigorous and very focused. The palate is pure and sensual on the entry, the acidity very well judged, with a caressing and long finish laden with black fruit. It needs another couple of years to absorb the oak, but it will be worth the wait. Tasted September 2017. Drink Date 2018 - 2035
The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Hauts Doix is a blend that includes 20% whole bunch fruit and a prudent 20% new oak. It has a more introverted bouquet compared to the Les Seuvrées before opening up with quite a flourish, exhibiting an attractive marine/oyster shell influence. The palate is fresh on the entry with a touch of dark cherry and citrus lemon. Quite edgy, a killer line of acidity here with a very harmonious finish that lingers nicely in the mouth, a saline aftertaste lingering nicely. This is a very more-ish Chambolle from Nicolas Groffier.
