Wonderful aromas of chocolate, flowers and berry follow through to a full body, dense and juicy fruit and a long and flavorful finish. Polished and soft tannins. Fine textured at the end. Drink or hold.
The Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto delivers darkness, power and length in this classic vintage. The 2013 Barolo Villero plays its best cards in the mouth, however. The nose is bold and dense due to aromas of dark fruit and mild spice. But the mouthfeel is more interesting, thanks to the fullness and the textural smoothness it displays. I would expect this wine to become more fine and linear with extra bottle aging.
Castiglione Falletto. Cask sample. Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Leafy, cool cherry nose with hints of iron. Backward, youthful sweet fruit and wonderful grainy tannins. Great balance but not ready by far.
