The nose is more deeply pitched still with its dark currant liqueur-like aromas that are liberally laced with notes of anise, clove, dried tangerine peel and lavender. There is excellent volume and complexity to the wonderfully refined medium-bodied flavors thanks to the dense but very fine-grained tannins that also shape the impressively persistent, harmonious and lingering finish. This will certainly be capable of rewarding longer-term cellaring yet be approachable after only 6 years or so of bottle age.
The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny les Charmes 1er Cru has a lively, vivacious bouquet with red currant jam, fresh strawberries and black plum aromas, perhaps even with a hint of black truffle (unusual at this early stage.) The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and well-judged acidity. This feels sappy in the mouth and very cohesive toward the sensual finish. Very fine. There is impressive substance here.
