The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge comes from 40-year old vines in three parcels close to Clos de Vougeot. It has a fresh blackcurrant and wild strawberry-scented bouquet with fine delineation. You might think there was a little stem addition here, but there is none. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin and bright red fruit, with pleasing structure on the finish. This is as good a Bourgogne Rouge as you will find in 2016.
Translucent ruby in the glass with a fragrant, perfumed nose of ripe strawberries. The palate is silky and refined, with fully integrated tannins and bright acidity to frame a core of fresh red fruits. There are accents of spice and a hint of florality too to add to the intrigue. A pure, precise and approachable Burgundian Pinot Noir, perfect for drinking over the next 24 months.
