Tasting Notes

Freshness and brightness to this. Medium to full body with firm, juicy tannins. A little chewy now, but will come around nicely with bottle age. Excellent for the vintage. Better after 2021.

The 2017 Sociando-Mallet is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with a spicy nose over a red plums and red currants core plus a waft of underbrush. The palate is medium-bodied with a well-judged, approachable structure and plenty of freshness, finishing fruity.

Inky crimson with black core. Dusty cassis nose. Leafy on the palate, juicy and fresh but could do with a little more flesh in the middle. Very firm grip on the finish. Dark and savoury aftertaste.

Another superb wine from this epic estate, this is a combative red, but everything is in place, from the rich nose to the full fruit and while there are some green notes, they are welcome and they are not exacerbated by excess use of oak. I don’t expect the tannins to hang around for too long, so this is an unqualified success, albeit in a completely different shape and size to both the 2015 and the 2016, for this over-performing Château.

This shows focus and brightness for a 2017 with firm and silky tannins and a vivid character. Fine and polished texture. Beautiful. Close to the 2015.
