Moderate wood influence still allows the markedly earthy dark berry fruit aromas that are infused with floral, humus and tea nuances to shine. There is outstanding intensity and concentration to the big-bodied, powerful and serious flavors that deliver superb length on the emphatically structured finale that is a bit less youthfully austere than usual. Even so, this excellent effort is going to need at least a decade first, in fact this is more likely to be a classic 'buy and forget you own it' wine. Drink: 2035+
The 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a terrific rendition of this routinely stunning cuvée, soaring from the glass with a complex bouquet of red-black fruit, incense, rich soil tones, violets, smoked duck and a touch of menthol. On the palate, the wine is deep, full-bodied and multidimensional, with an ample chassis of rich, velvety tannins, a cool core of fruit and effortless balance through the long, penetrating and sapid finish. This Clos Vougeot is a monument in the making.
