A warm, dry February and March led to an early budburst, but hydric stress in mid-summer slowed down natural development. The vintage was saved by rains in August which refreshed the vines, the harvest beginning on September 10th. This is a deep, almost purple-red with a rich velvety aspect. It has deep, black autumn fruits on the nose, and all the warmth and spice is there, enhanced and controlled by French oak, a first for Barca Velha - it had always been 100% Portuguese oak previously. All the components are perfectly blended in, finishing with a warming hint of vanilla and fine tannins reminiscent of Château Margaux. 2017-2045
