The most powerful and deepest pinot gris of this vintage from Zind Humbrecht with a ton of smoke, creme-brulee and mushroom character. In spite of the almost 15% alcoholic content, it is properly dry and has a wonderful liveliness at the finish. Drink or hold. Made from biodynamically grown grapes.
This year this is very dry, with a warmth of alcohol as a result of the fast fermentation. The nose is spicy and smoky, with lots of white pepper and pear. The palate has a piquancy both in spice and alcohol, with a lightly creamy note carrying the exotic fruits. This wine has a unique flavour profile that will not be to everyone's taste, but it is a unique and high quality expression of the variety.
The intensely straw-yellow colored 2016 Alsace Grand Cru Rangen de Thann Pinot Gris Clos Saint Urbain offers generous yet very fine and elegant fruit with delicate spicy and sur-lie expressions from the long aging in barrels until the bottling in February 2018. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, mouth-filling, elegant, tight and densely woven Rangen Pinot that fermented bone dry and reveals a firm structure with lots of power and lingering salinity (14.5% alcohol). Made from extremely healthy grapes whose must fermented unusually quickly, down to less than two grams of residual sugar. Tasted June 2018. 2021 - 2036
