From a 2.25 hectare parcel, this is one of the stars of the range in 2016, opening in the glass with a reserved nose of citrus zest, iodine, crushed oyster shell and a touch of crème pâtissière. On the palate the wine is concentrated, pure and crystalline, with racy acids, impressive energy and a lovely vein of saline minerality which lingers through the finish.
The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre comes from two hectares of vines split over three types of terroir. It has a crisp, fruits de mer-scented bouquet with plenty of dew-speckled Granny Smith apples. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, saline in the mouth and fine weight toward the finish, with plenty of persistence. This has great potential and could turn out to be one of William Fevre's best premier crus this year. Excellent.
Pale colour, with a lightly reductive nose. Lean and racy yet with good intensity, predominantly white fruit, quite persistent, with some tannins behind, perhaps from the wood. Long finish which is tightened up by a touch of sulphur – no bad thing for the long term. DIAM 10 closure.
