While it isn't the grandest appellation in the cellar, the 2017 Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru gets my nod as the finest of these négociant offerings from Jean-Marie Fourrier. Unfurling in the glass with notes of currant leaf, smoked meats and cassis, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with velvety tannins, tangy acids and, above all, a sense of completeness that sets it apart. Fourrier told me that it derives from a parcel of especially old vines.
More shuttered than his Charmes, which Mazoyères often tends to be, this hails from a single, 68-year-old parcel close to Latricières-Chambertin. It's savoury, focussed and well balanced, with enticing fruit sweetness and a fresh, tapering finish. Made without new oak again. 2025 - 2032
