Pleasant center palate to this young Barsac. Medium-bodied and very sweet, but lacks a bit of botrytis for me.
There is clear quality here, with good persistency and some lovely minerality, if relatively little acidity. It has a strong golden colour, suggesting concentration, followed by luscious fruit flavours through the palate of apricot, peach, nectarine and cantaloupe melon, and bitter herbs on the finish. 50% new oak was used. A yield of just 3hl/ha.
Drinking Window 2022 - 2040
Mid gold, cloudy. Orange and apricot suggest a high level of botrytis. Spicy, full-flavoured with those fruits and a touch of barley sugar. A slight grip in the texture. Bold and spicy and just enough freshness to balance. 13.2%
Drink 2025-2035
Bright gold in colour with a rich and toasty nose of dried fruits, sweet vanilla and a hint of marmalade. The palate is rich and heady, with a thick texture and oodles of dried, honeyed fruit. Tinned peaches, grilled pineapple and frangipane all come through on the long finish.
(75 Semillon, 23 Sauvignon Blanc, 2 Muscadelle) Classy and rather well-balanced, albeit from an introverted point of view, this is a firm and intense Coutet and I like the length and also the intensity of the flavour here.
