Tasting Notes

One of Bordeaux’s top second wines, the 2004 Clos du Marquis exhibits crunchy, juicy, red cherry and currant fruit along with notions of herbs and spice box. Well-made, medium-bodied, elegant, and reminiscent of its bigger sibling, it should age well for 10-15 years.

87/89
Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (165), June 2006

Lots of blackberry character with hints of toasted oak and earth. Full-bodied, with chunky yet velvety tannins and a medium finish. Very well done. Almost 92-94.

89/91
James Suckling, Wine Spectator (April 05), April 2005

Very correct and notably dense with the 2004 trademark acidity. Some velvet in terms of texture. Fruit picked very late - a slightly lack of freshness. Seductive but not perfect. Drink 2012-2022. Date tasted 6th Aug 08.
