The prodigious, inky/purple-colored 2007 Syrah Garys’ Vineyard exhibits abundant notes of bacon fat, creme de cassis, blackberries, charcoal, smoke, and barbecue spices. In the mouth, it is pure blackberry and cassis fruit intertwined with distinctive floral notes that keep pushing through as the wine is swirled. Full-bodied and deep, but light on its feet despite its colossal concentration and richness, there is not a hard edge to be found in this remarkable example of New World Syrah from a cool climate site in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Drink it over the next 7-8 years.
