An exuberantly spicy nose is composed almost exclusively of various very ripe dark berries and exotic tea scents. The finer middle weight flavors aren't as powerful though I like the vibrancy on the dusty, raspy and slightly short finish. Because the underlying tannins seem phenolically mature, my sense is that this will eventually come together, and my predicted range assumes that will occur over time.
There are ten barrels of the 2018 Echézeaux Grand Cru (Domaine Louis Jadot), an excellent wine that unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet wild berries, dark chocolate, potpourri and spices. On the palate, it's full-bodied, velvety and supple, with a broad and textural attack, fine depth at the core and a lively, nicely defined finish. This is often one of Jadot's most underrated wines, and it is well worth seeking out.
From Les Rouges du Bas. Fine glowing red purple. There is an immediate and delicious elegant floral quality to the nose, in the context of ripe fruit, of course. Soft and a little oaky on the palate – nothing that will not integrate – but with a delicious quality of fruit that extends very well to the back of the palate. Tasted: November 2019
Herbal and sweet in equal measure with wild hegerow fruits, redolent strawberries and a hint of blueberry. Intense, rich and bold, with velveteen tannins and pure red fruits at the core on the palate. Long, fine and linear, this is elegant and intense in equal measure.
