The beautifully layered and markedly-floral inflected nose features notes of ripe white orchard fruit and citrus elements that are framed by suggestions of petrol, matchstick and a whiff of wood. The generously proportioned and extremely rich full-bodied flavors are opulent but not heavy as there is ample acid support to maintain the balance on the powerful, sappy and tension-filled finish that also just goes on and on. I really like the depth and this should age effortlessly for years.
The 2017 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has also turned out brilliantly, mingling notes of peach, pear and honeycomb with nuances of beeswax, warm bread and orange oil. Full-bodied, multidimensional and textural, it's a powerful, muscular wine that's concentrated and satiny without being unctuous, balanced by racy acids. Long and penetrating, this is worth a special effort to seek out.
