Latricières Chambertin, Domaine Simon Bize et Fils 2002

Not surprisingly, this is at another level with an entirely different expression yet remarkably, it is not head and shoulders above the Vergelesses. To be sure, this is a better wine with its ultra elegant and wonderfully pure and high-toned red pinot fruit aromas followed by sweet, delicious, beautifully textured flavors of almost unreal precision and minerality. The velvety, indeed almost silky finish presently displays touches of warmth and oak that will undoubtedly be integrated over time. A very, very impressive effort that should last for several decades, perhaps 30+ years even.
