Tasting Notes

I'd be amazed if there is a more generous, rich, voluptuous wine made in Piedmont than this cuvée. In anyone else's hands, this wine could be a total mess but with Cavallotto's expertise in this magical vineyard, this is just pure pleasure in a glass. It has bags of black cherry fruit, bordering on jammy but kept in check by notable acidity, providing freshness to power the wine through to a very complex and long finish. It will drink well in a decade but is one of those wines where you should be itching to pull the cork from day one. Hedonistic doesn't even begin to cover it.

Castiglione Falletto. Tasted blind. Mid to deep ruby with orange tinges. Deep and brooding nose with a hint of leather and a peppery tingle. Supple and still a little embryonic with plentiful acidity and firm gripping tannins. Elegant, long and balanced but needs time to settle. 2024-2034

Tank sample. Soft ruby. Gently sweet red fruit. Pure and scented. Tightly structured but the tannins are so fine they slide across the palate even now. Lovely, elegant, long. 2023-2032
