Much spicier aromas include those of violet, red berry coulis, soil tones and discreet wood influence. I very much like the seductive texture of the suave and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors that flash good power on the firmly structured finale where the only reproach is a touch of warmth.
Notes of rich berry fruit, blood orange, rose petals and spices introduce the 2020 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, velvety and ample wine that's layered and lively, with bright acids and a saline finish. This is promising.
Mid ruby in colour. The nose has a herbal, spicy profile laced with dark cherry and brighter red plum fruit. The palate displays good muscle from chalky, ripe tannins and real focus in the fruit core. It is not voluptuous, but there is underlying ripeness in a compact, moreish and lightly savoury cloak. Vibrant and powerful on the finish, there is good potential here.
