The 2019 L'Hêtre lacks a little cohesion on the nose, slightly minty black fruit laced with cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. Maybe this suffers a little over-extraction, though I appreciate the spicy finish and peppery aftertaste. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. (Drink between 2025-2035)
L'Hêtre continues the growth of Jacque Thienpont's forest as he adds to Le Pin and L'If. From the Côtes de Castillon, the vineyard is heavily planted with Merlot and has a dash of Cabernet Franc. It is typically aged for 15 months in oak. The first vintage was 2016.
