A fascinating blend of Treixadura from Ribeiro (Spain) with Albariño from vineyards in Rias Baixas (Spain) and across the Miño river in Vinho Verde (Portugal). Pale lemon-gold colour. A layered and immediately captivating nose shows real depth, with preserved lemons, nectarine, lime and creamy, smoky richness. There are elements here reminiscent of Premier Cru Chablis, yet the vivacity of fruit adds power to the aromatic profile. The palate is immediately saline and savoury, matching the depth of fruit from the nose with zesty, lively acidity. Textural, with baked apples, smoky stone fruit and pastry cream, the layered flavours match the aromas. The finish is long oily, yet with a balancing pithyness. Long and fine, and very exciting.
Mixtura Independent Wine is the producer of this wine, which is made from grapes from two countries: Spain and Portugal. It’s a blend of Treixadura from Ribeiro in Spain, and Albariño from both Rias Baixas and the Minho (in Portugal). This is from a selection of vineyards. Wild ferment in Austrian oak foudres, then racked to concrete tanks for another year. This has a little bit of oak character from the foudres, but there’s lovely texture and fruit here with melon, pear and citrus with mineral hints and a lovely persistence. This is youthful, but it’s a serious wine and it could age really well. So distinctive and really fine.
